Gear the kids up with learning this Summer

Schools out but the learning continues! We have lots on offer to keep the kids busy this Summer. Bring the whole family along to enjoy a day out at the Museum,  join in and learn some new skills at our Family Hands-On Heritage workshops or sign up to one of our kids heritage clubs. Family Hands-on Heritage Workshops

Leather Keyrings 

Thu 28 Jul

Join our family workshop where you can create your own leather keyrings to take home.

Learn all the basic techniques of working with leather including cutting, marking and decorating to your own individual leather key rings.

Participants need to be able to use scissors and other sharp tools. 

FELT MAKING

THU 4 AUG

A perfect opportunity to work together as a family using an exciting and very old technique – feltmaking.

Explore the feltmaking process step by step and create a fantastic picture piece along the theme of bugs and butterflies.

Suitable for all ages 6+

Print Making 

Thu 11 Aug

Join us to learn about print making and have a go at producing your very own printing plate.

Bring along a printed image of your own or choose from a selection of images our tutor will supply. You will then learn how to turn this image into a printing plate which can be used time and time again.

Suitable for all ages 8+

Metal Flowers

Thu 25 Aug

Come and take part together in a fun and creative workshop.

Learn the techniques of metal forming and embossing to create your own unique metal flower to take home with you at the end of the session.

For family members of all ages and generations from age 10+.

Introduction to Pottery

Fri 19 Aug

Come and take part together in a fun and creative workshop.

Our experienced ceramic artist Jon Williams, will guide you through a variety of pottery techniques using real clay. Make your own masterpiece to take home for drying and painting.

Rag Rug Woodland Creatures

Thu 1 Sep

Come and learn the traditional techniques of rag rug making with a twist in a fun and friendly atmosphere.

Important workshop information: All our workshops must be booked in advance. All children (under 16) must be accompanied by adults. Workshop times: 10am – 12noon or 1.30pm – 3.30pm

Hands- On Heritage Clubs

Young Archaeologists’ and Curators’ Club

Wednesdays during School Holidays
Come and join our holiday club and dig deeper into your heritage. Take part in a range of themed activities exploring the past, including undertaking research, taking part in traditional crafts, object handling, living history interpretation and collections display.
 
This club is for those aged 8 – 15, excited about history and keen to meet new friends and take part in fun, hands-on activities.  Come as a one off or book for each session.

Maker’s club. 

Tuesdays during School Holidays

Come along to our Maker’s Club and learn some new skills, these take place on various dates throughout the year alongside local school holidays.

This club is designed for those aged 8 -15, excited about making things, solving problems and keen to meet new friends. Come as a one off or book for each session.
