Christmas – We Need Your Help!

Feeling festive yet? We know it’s still early, but we are asking for your help in creating the perfect Christmas setting at the Museum this year!

We are seeking donations of historic Christmas decorations to bring some festive cheer to our historic buildings over the Christmas period. In particular, decorations from the 1950s and 60s, such as baubles, hanging decorations, tinsel or homemade decorations.

If you think you can help, we’re inviting you to pop along to our drop-in session on Monday 3 October 2022 at Black Country Living Museum between 10am-1pm and bring your items in for the Collections team to assess.

Please note, the Collections team will make on the spot decisions about what to accept and what to decline. If the decorations are not in keeping with the décor or time periods of the site you will be required to take them home.

  • You will be required to sign a donations form to confirm you have donated the decorations for use at the Museum. We will not accepted unsolicited donations.
  • The decorations will be used for open display in our historic buildings and will not become part of the museum’s permanent collection.
  • We cannot guarantee that all decorations accepted will go on display.
  • We will not accept broken or damaged decorations.
  • We will not accept decorations on long-term loan or donations with conditions.
  • The Museum is not able to dispose of decorations that are not suitable on your behalf.
  • We appreciate that older objects can potentially be contaminated or made with materials that are now considered to be dangerous. Therefore, in almost every circumstance, objects containing hazardous materials and substances (eg. asbestos, explosives, radioactive material, flammable, poisonous or potential carcinogens) will not be accepted.

On arrival to the Museum, please let our team know that you are visiting for our Christmas decoration drop-in session and they will direct you on where to go. If you wish to visit the rest of the Museum following your visit to our drop-in session, please make your way to the Visitor Welcome Centre.

If you have any questions in advance of your visit to the drop-in session, please email the team at [email protected]
