House Policy

We want to ensure that everyone has a bostin’ time here at the Museum.

Our staff and volunteers are committed to delivering the best possible experience and treat every visitor with respect. We kindly ask that you show them, as well as your fellow Museum visitors, respect too. Any abuse towards our staff or volunteers will not be tolerated and we reserve the right to remove a visitor and their party from our site if abuse or harassment is deemed to have taken place.

This etiquette guidance extends to interactions with the Museum’s social media channels. We are proud to share the Black Country’s story in our content, and share a diverse and inclusive range of stories. We kindly ask that you are respectful of both the people who appear in our content and other users when posting comments on our social media content. Any comments deemed to be abusive, offensive or derogatory will be removed.

By purchasing a ticket to visit Black Country Living Museum, you are agreeing to follow our house policy below. A copy of our house policy is available to read at the Visitor Centre. Please speak to a member of our Admissions team if you wish to view it.

The Museum is licensed to serve and sell alcohol on its premises to any visitor aged 18+. Proof of age photo ID may be requested and sale refused to any visitor unable to provide a recognised form of ID.

The Museum respectfully asks visitors to drink responsibly during their visit and reserves the right to refuse sale of alcohol to any visitor deemed to be intoxicated. In such instances visitors may also be asked to leave the Museum premises and no refund will be issued.

Visitors are not permitted to consume alcohol on site that has not been purchased from the Museum. If a visitor is found to be in possession of alcohol which has not been purchased from the Museum, the Museum reserves the right to confiscate it. If an item is confiscated, it will be returned when the visitor leaves the Museum.

Only Guide dogs, assistance dogs and animals under the Museum’s management and care are allowed into the Museum. For those permitted, animal facilities are available. Please ask a member of staff during your visit.

Animals must not be left in vehicles while visiting the Museum.

Physical or verbally abusive or threatening behaviour towards our staff, volunteers or other Museum visitors is unacceptable. Any incidences will be investigated and appropriate action will be taken.

If you are attending an event and someone is behaving in an intimidating, aggressive or threatening way please speak to any member of the Museum’s staff who will contact our Duty Manager.

The Museum reserves the right to refuse entry to a visitor or to eject a visitor from the Museum site if, in the Museum’s reasonable opinion, the visitor is: being physically or verbally abusive; behaving in a threatening manner; appears to be under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs; may be a risk to the safety of Museum staff, volunteers or other visitors; may be disrupting or detracting from the enjoyment of other visitors; fails, when required, to produce proof of identity, age or entitlement to discount or concession; fails to comply with the requests of Museum staff; or is found to be in breach of the Museum’s terms and conditions or statutory law.

No refunds will be used to visitors who are refused entry or ejected due to their behaviour suggested in, but not limited to, the examples above.

The Museum reserves the right to conduct security searches and confiscate any item which, in the reasonable opinion of Museum staff, may cause danger or disruption to the event or experience, or which the Museum has previously specified as prohibited.

When leaving the Museum, please be respectful of our neighbours (both residential and commercial) when leaving. Please do not park in residential areas, particularly when this poses a danger to visitors, residents and the general public.

Cars are parked at the owners’ risk. The Museum accepts no responsibility for damage, accident or loss while using the Museum’s car parks.

Personal use

We love seeing photos and videos of our visitors having a bostin’ day out with us.

So that we can keep the smiles on everyone’s faces, we ask that all our visitors are respectful towards each other and our colleagues. If you’d like to take a photo or video of any of our staff or volunteers, please ask their permission first – not everyone is as happy to be on camera as our horses!

Please note, the use of supplementary lighting or drones is not permitted.

Professional

We have a range of stunning backdrops – from an industrial boat dock to a 1940s to 1960s high street – that could be perfect for your next project.

If you would like to undertake professional work (content used to earn money or promote business) at the Museum, please email filming@bclm.com If you are an influencer or blogger, please email marketing@bclm.com

Failure to contact the Museum before your visit may result in the refusal of entry and the termination of any existing UnChained Annual Pass without refund, along with any necessary legal action. Please note that an existing UnChained Annual Pass cannot be used to gain entry.

Commercial

From large scale TV productions to new product launches, we’ve hosted a range of projects.

In-house photography and videography

From time-to-time Black Country Living Museum, or other authorised parties, carry out photography and/or video recording in the Museum, which may capture visitors.

Entry to the Museum is deemed acceptance of our house policy, and you therefore agree that Black Country Living Museum, or any authorised party, may use such images in perpetuity in any promotional, advertising or publicity material in any format whatsoever. You further agree that copyright in these materials rests with Black Country Living Museum.

In-house photographers or authorised parties will be clearly identifiable, either with a Museum identification card or an official guest lanyard.

For the comfort of our visitors, the protection of our collections and in line with legislation, smoking and the use of e-cigarettes is not permitted within any Museum buildings or on-board historic transport. Outdoors, we respectfully ask that visitors only smoke in our designated smoking areas. Please speak to a member of staff to find out where designated smoking areas are.

The Museum site reflects a historic setting, which includes cobbled streets, uneven surfaces, and open water at our canal boat dock. We kindly ask that you are mindful of this while enjoying your visit. Please take care on uneven surfaces, be aware of moving vehicles, don’t climb or play on exhibits, and refrain from feeding or touching the animals.

We ask that children are supervised by an adult at all times.
