Visiting the museum

If you are visiting us for the first time, we recommend that you purchase your ticket(s) in advance via our website. When booking online you’ll need to choose a date for your visit. Please make sure you book a ticket for each individual in your visiting party.

For those who are visiting either with an existing UnChained Annual Pass, Museum Membership or voucher, you do not need to pre-book. Simply bring your pass, Membership card or voucher(s) with you and our admissions team will process your entry. Please make sure to check our opening times ahead of your journey.

Please don’t feel rushed if you want to explore our Visitor Centre before heading onto site. Your entry is guaranteed.

Your admission ticket includes entry to all open exhibits within the Museum site, including the underground mine experience and riding on our vintage transport, as well as unlimited daytime visits to the Museum for 12 months*.

The Museum is located next to the Dudley Canal and Tunnel Trust, which runs boat trips through limestone caverns for an additional cost.

Parking is available (over 500 spaces) across our two car parks. A parking charge applies – please remember to purchase your car park token at our Visitor Centre.

*see our terms and conditions for more details about our UnChained Annual Pass.

Following your first visit, you can activate your UnChained Annual Pass via our website. Once activated you can enjoy 12 months of free and unlimited daytime returns.

This offer is not applicable for those using vouchers (including Tesco vouchers). Please note that UnChained Passes are issued for unlimited return for the original visiting party only, and proof of ID may be requested.

Yes! Children with a Blue Peter badge can visit for free, so long they are accompanied by a paying adult (one child entry per paying adult). You don’t need to pre-book your entry.

Please ensure that you bring along your Blue Peter badge as well as your badge ID card with your timed entry ticket to gain admission.

Blue Peter badges are valid for general admission only and cannot be used to purchase special event tickets.

As there is uneven terrain across the Museum’s 26 acres, we do not allow children’s scooters within our grounds. Please explore the Museum by foot – or hop on to one of our buses!

Should you need to change the date of your pre-booked ticket, please call our Ticketing team on 0121 520 8054 (lines open Monday - Friday, 9am - 4pm), or email ticketing@bclm.com.

Please remember that general admission tickets are non-transferrable and non-refundable.

For visitors who would like to arrive by boat, there are a limited number of 48-hour moorings available adjacent to the Museum at Dudley Canal and Tunnel Trust. These are free of charge and are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

To find out more, or to get in touch directly with Dudley Canal and Tunnel Trust, please visit their website. The moorings are behind the Bottle and Glass pub, which are visible from the canal.

Only Guide dogs, assistance dogs and animals under the Museum’s management and care are allowed into the Museum on a daily basis.

From Thursday 6 November 2025 to Thursday 12 February 2026, we will be trialling Dog Days on Thursdays and Sundays only. To find out more about this, please see our information on visiting with dogs.

Visiting with dogs

Animals must not be left in your vehicle while you are visiting the site. Should this happen, and the animal is found in distress, the Police will be contacted.

The pre-booked timeslot applies to entry only. Following your entry, you’re free to spend as long as you like visiting the Museum until closing. Please check the opening times for the date of your visit for guidance.

The Museum site covers 29 acres (around 15 football pitches) so we recommend that you allow at least half a day to explore.

Please note that if you are paying on the door or using vouchers, you may be required to queue for a short amount of time before entering.

Those entering with an online booking, existing UnChained Annual Pass or BCLM Membership will be scanned in separately to the pay-on-the-door queue.

There are a variety of options around the Museum for you to choose from, including Café Black Country in our Visitor Centre, our popular Hobbs & Sons Fish & Chip Shop as well as the Workers’ Institute Café.

Visitors are also welcome to bring their own picnic to enjoy in the designated outdoor areas of the Museum.

Eat, Drink, Shop

There is both car and coach parking at the Museum. A parking charge applies for the whole day. BCLM Members and Blue Badge holders park for free, subject to availability.

Directions

Our main gift shop is located in the Visitor Centre, on the ground floor. You can return to the shop and browse at any point during your visit.

There are also retail opportunities within some of our historic buildings, including H. Morrall's Gentleman's Outfitters, Spring Hill Post Office and Stanton's Music Shop.

There are two designated smoking points at the Museum. These are located behind the Newcomen replica and by Factory Junction Bridge. Please use the buckets of sand provided to dispose of the cigarette.

The minimum age to go on our underground mine tour is 5 years old. Under 5s will not be permitted due to the uneven terrain, low lighting and duration of the tour.

Please not that babes in arms and pushchairs are not permitted.

Underground Mine

We have had to make some adaptations to our transport timetable as a result of construction work for our latest 1940s-1960s development that sees more Black Country brought to life.

We are offering transportation on our motor buses every day where possible. We’re also displaying key vehicles from our fleet across the Museum, which visitors can talk to our transport drivers about to discover more.

Our access vehicle, ‘Doris’, is available for any visitor who requires assistance. On the day of your visit, please call our Duty Manager on 07788 666161 to make appropriate arrangements.

BCLM is for everyone and we want to be as accessible and inclusive as possible in everything we do. We have ensured that maximum access and inclusion has been considered at every stage of our plan for reopening to create a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone who visits.

Access Guide

We’re dedicated to fostering an inclusive, supportive and understanding environment for all our colleagues and visitors. Recognising the unique challenges that menopause can present, we’ve taken positive steps to being a menopause-friendly workplace, including our ‘Ask Bab’ campaign, which offers free sanitary products in case of need during someone’s visit.
