Festival of vehicles

This Father’s Day weekend, Black Country Living Museum will be shifting into top gear as it displays vehicles manufactured in the West Midlands, including world-renowned marques like Bean, Clyno, Guy, Sunbeam and AJS, as part of its ‘Festival of Vehicles’ event.

The Museum’s impressive collection includes a vast variety of buses, motorbikes and cars. Recent additions include a replica Midland Counties dairy milk cart that has been lovingly built by a small team of skilled craftsmen, volunteers and staff at the Museum and a 1959 DKR Defiant scooter that challenged Italian giants like Vespa and Lambretta.

All of these vehicles will be on display across the Museum, either as part of static displays or in a cavalcade across the Museum’s 26 acres, giving visitors the opportunity to get up close and find out more about transport through the ages.

Visitors can enjoy a ride on a vintage motor bus around the canalside village and hop off to explore replica motor shops and garages that once existed in the region. They will be able to chat with historic characters and the Museum’s transport team to find out how the Black Country once dominated the transport manufacturing scene; the region landed a formidable reputation for creating record-breaking motorbikes that took TT races and land speed records by storm.

And what’s more… there are all the Museum’s usual favourites to explore! Visitors to the Museum can experience a taste of what life was like in one of Britain’s first heavily industrialised landscapes, witness hands-on industry with the Museum’s chain and nail making demonstrations, enjoy a pint in one of the Museum’s pubs and get a taste of history with the Museum’s famous traditional fish and chips.
